#GBDoc My names Mark and I’ve been driving (or attempting to according to my Wife) for just over 20 years
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost Evening. I'm Matt, T1D for 33 years and been driving for 32 years. #gbdoc

@GbdocTChost #T1D for 30 years #gbdoc

@GbdocTChost A1 - A few times. Most noticeably on one lesson where I hit the kerb whilst driving - surprised he allowed me to continue. Also had times (a while ago!) where I had little recollection of my drive. Scary, but also common when you’re doing countless miles on the same trips. #gbdoc

@GbdocTChost A1. Erm, yes. Dealt with them at the time. Had a bad one almost 3 years ago and rolled the car. Thankfully no-on injured. Mutual agreement with docs to stop driving - lasted over 2 years. Back on the road for the past 6 months. #gbdoc

@GbdocTChost A2 The current set up #GBDoc and yes that’s spare EDT for meetings!! https://t.co/bOg9mF3INd
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A2. Glucogel in door pockets and centre console. There's tons of the stuff. #gbdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@yaffle1972 @GbdocTChost Glucogel is vile - it's like wallpaper paste (same consistency, colour and probably taste) so less likely to eat it when not hypo! #gbdoc
Mark D @markrhysdavies
@GbdocTChost I understand why it’s there, but, personally, I fortunately find my recovery very quick from low blood sugar. Is it too long? Work wouldn’t worry about being late, but I’d be surprised if all PWD wait the full 45 mins. #gbdoc controversial I’m sure!
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@GbdocTChost A3 comes in very handy for exam boards as a piece of evidence that hypoglycaemia has a longer lasting impact than some teachers believe. #GBDoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A3. Erm, right, yeah. 🙄 I can understand why but seriously does everyone wait 45 minutes? #gbdoc

@GbdocTChost A4 - I’ve known of drivers who suffer with blackouts (disclosed to DVLA) who drove (not sure if it is legal anymore) larger vehicles - not sure anyone with good recovery and awareness is any more of a danger? #gbdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A4. Just accepted that. Didn't want to drive an HGV or bus anyway. When they changed the rules on driving minibuses with T1D that did affect me for some social activities but again just accepted it. #gbdoc

@GbdocTChost Been driving for 23 years with type 1 #GBDoc Dexcom has really helped give me confidence with my levels

@GbdocTChost Drive on the wrong side of the road 😉#GBDoc
Mark D @markrhysdavies
@GbdocTChost A5 - CGM via the steering wheel and CarPlay?!? #gbdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A5. Pump with CGM and auto-suspend for all. 🦄😆 #gbdoc
Mark D @markrhysdavies
@GbdocTChost A6 - don’t take ANY chances, ever. Not with diabetes, drinks, drugs etc. I was lucky with some hypos when I was younger and now realise what danger I put myself and others in. Ensure you’ve got kits and glucose with you! #gbdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A6. Drive it like you stole it. Only joking. Be sensible, follow the rules, check your bloods etc. #gbdoc
