@GbdocTChost Hi I’m Deborah. Never had an xmas sandwich but I do like pigs in blankets #GBDoc
Frances πŸ’™ @FranAMH
@GbdocTChost Frances love Turkey & stuffing but please please no cranberry sauce 🀒🀒 #GBDoc
Me @purplepickles
#GBDoc Q1 hi Debbie here. I don't use takeaway sarnies anymore but our local deli used to do turkey, chopped celery and mayo on rye Yum!
Matt πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost Hello, I'm Matt. Not sure about xmas specific sandwiches but like the M&S plant kitchen roasted veg and avocado vegan one. #gbdoc
Literal chaos πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ @OccamRaisedHer
@GbdocTChost Hi! I’m Tor and today I had my first pigs under blankets after my new team appointment #GBDoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@GbdocTChost A1. Is it true there are more young adults in their 30’s being diagnosed as t1? If so why? I am the only one in family with t1d & dx in my early 30’s #GBDoc
Matt πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A1. Yes, this annoys me as they still don't know what triggers T1. They were talking about the coxsackie b virus over 30 years ago and are I think are still researching it now. Until they identify it a prevention is not possible. #gbdoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@foxinhisden @GbdocTChost I had men c & septicaemia when I was 19 then in a skiing accident & under stress just before dx πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ #GBDoc
Frances πŸ’™ @FranAMH
@GbdocTChost Yes I'm interested in the link between different autoimmune conditions as no one seems to be able to explain #GBDoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@MrDaibetes @GbdocTChost Wonder why? #GBDoc
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@MrDaibetes @GbdocTChost The phrase golden goose springs to mind. Smart insulin always sounded to me the closest thing to a cure #GBDoc
Matt πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A1. A cure would be not injecting insulin with fully operational beta cells. I don't think a 'cure' is possible until they know what causes it. #GBDoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@GbdocTChost A2. How can you cure something when you don’t know the cause? Cause is different for everyone - Better focus is allowing unrestricted access to technology to help manage the disease better eg cgm/pump/looping #GBDoc
Me @purplepickles
#GBDoc My symptoms were put down to stress and anxiety for years, it was the optician who finally insisted on a blood test to check BGL's leading to DX of T2 by the GP quickly followed by a DKA and DX of T1 in hospital
Frances πŸ’™ @FranAMH
@GbdocTChost Don't think there's going to be a cure for me so research to stop people developing it in the first place and looping for those who already have it #GBDoc
Matt πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost Oops meant A2. #GBDoc
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@MrDaibetes @GbdocTChost It was said it would be injected one a day maybe and then only β€˜activate’ in the presence of glucose in the blood. I think I read one co researching it was bought by one of the major insulin makers, to develop or stifle though who knows #GBDoc
Serena Coleman @LiterarySa
@GbdocTChost I'm Serena, can't say I've ever had a takeaway Christmas sandwich. Love a mince pie or pigs in blankets, and leftover turkey or gammon in a toastie on Boxing Day! #GBdoc
Frances πŸ’™ @FranAMH
@julesbhrh @GbdocTChost Nope don't like jam with my meat 🀣🀣 #GBDoc
Me @purplepickles
#gbdoc A cure (ish) for me would be regular sleep patterns, a whole nights sleep every night. Not having to sit in the car park for half an hour waiting for bloods to get to a reasonable level before driving home after a stressful day
Literal chaos πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ @OccamRaisedHer
@GbdocTChost It’s the postcode lottery that concerns me. The end is now in sight for me self funding CGM but it has been financially ......difficult. Seeing the libre being so available but some trusts still resisting that worries #GBDoc
Frances πŸ’™ @FranAMH
@GbdocTChost Concerns are about speed of change - looping is out there but the research seems to be lagging behind. So access is lagging too. #GBDoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@GbdocTChost A3. Removing barriers like access & cost of technology is a good place to start. Reliability, hardiness & longevity of technology is a key thing that needs improving #GBDoc
Serena Coleman @LiterarySa
@GbdocTChost I'm always interested in learning more about T1D, and I'd love to know more about research on genetics. I have three cousins, an Aunt and me who are T1, and only one of us was dx in childhood #GBdoc
Me @purplepickles
#GBDoc I would love some research on atmospheric changes. I work primarily from home, no matter what the outside temp is my home is 22c but if the outside suddenly drops or rises, dry or wet, storm etc my BGL's go crazy
Frances πŸ’™ @FranAMH
@GbdocTChost More mental health support - that's def a postcode lottery #GBDoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@GbdocTChost A4. Perhaps better access to other teams eg mental health/eating disorders etc. Better communication between consultants/DSN & gp’s. #GBDoc
Serena Coleman @LiterarySa
@GbdocTChost A2 Echoing other people in this thread. A cure would mean being able to live my life without needing tech or meds. This seems highly unlikely, and I think it's more important to focus on improving tech and increasing access to tech #GBdoc
Me @purplepickles
#gbdoc Q4 Have to say our hospital DNS & Dieticians at Gloucester Royal are only an email away and always answer. They have even checked out questions with the consultants for me on occasions. I know we are lucky
Matt πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A5. Just better understanding that T1 exists in older people. It doesn't disappear at 25 and become something else. #GBDoc
Literal chaos πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ @OccamRaisedHer
@DiabeticDadUK @GbdocTChost I’d never considered this until now but YES! #GBDoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@CawleyKathrynL @GbdocTChost Why not add gp’s to the list of the most basic education. Prescription nightmares & time wasting reviews #GBDoc
Frances πŸ’™ @FranAMH
@GbdocTChost Poss more listening to the patients we're the ones handling it day in day out and professionals sometimes make wrong assumption in hospitals and care homes. #GBDoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@DiabeticDadUK @GbdocTChost I hear ya! With you on this! Although i don’t have as much t1d mileage as you πŸ™ŒπŸ» #GBDoc
Frances πŸ’™ @FranAMH
@Lolzporter @MrDaibetes @GbdocTChost Me neither #GBDoc
Reality Check @MelindaSeedT1D
@GbdocTChost #6 More rx into cardio-vascular, particularly in type 1, communicating relative and absolute risk, benefits of early detection and tx NOT just u get complications if you are a bad diabetic. #GBdoc
Serena Coleman @LiterarySa
@GbdocTChost Definitely would have been helpful to have had access to a DSN during times I was inpatient. May have reduced my length of stay. #GBdoc
Matt πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost Nowhere near. Libre says a close to the edge 4.2 and meter is 5.1. #GBDoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@GbdocTChost A6. For me I know & understand the complications that could happen & try my best everyday to try & prevent that happening. Perhaps 6mnthly reviews rather than annual ones?? #GBDoc
Frances πŸ’™ @FranAMH
@GbdocTChost Thanks for chat - interesting stuff #GBDoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
