I have made many resolutions, most of which fell short, regardless of the area. With weight and health, I do best with small commitments to change. I encourage the same for my patients and this seems to work best. #obsm

@obsmchat I try to avoid New Years resolutions and I don't encourage my patients to make them either. Setting a specific wt loss or size goal is a set-up to fail. I try to focus on basic lifestyle changes for my patients and helping them to good about themselves. #obsm

I've only ever made one strong "new year's resolution" in my life, and that was on January 1st, 2016,when I gave up soda. I used to be legitimately addicted, and it sounds silly, but I COULD. NOT. go without I drank an absurd amount. But I haven't had one since 12/31/2015. #obsm

@AskDr_Rachel Thanks! The first year was so hard - I hadn't thought it could possibly be a legitimate addiction until then, but I struggled! Cutting back never worked, so I had to go all or nothing. #obsm

@obsmchat Small, achievable goals are a cornerstone of #MotivationalInterviewing. Choose a small goal that you feel you can achieve and work on ways to achieve it. Then move on to the next goal. My job is simply to help identify that small goal and work with the family to achieve it. #obsm

@obsmchat I’m currently working on getting to a comfortable weight. I’ve lost about 140 lbs with #WLS - would like to lose maybe 40 more. But more than scale number, I want to feel comfortable being able to wear shorts and a bathing suit. #obsm

@obsmchat Yes. I am working on an exercise routine that fits my current life. I lost access to an athletic field due to construction - that was convenient. Huge effect on my exercising. I should have found something else. That option is back and my discipline is recovering. #hope #obsm
