Brett Hansen @RadiologyAlly
T1: I think mistrust is similar to what we feel when we take our car to get serviced. I know nothing about cars. We as patients sometimes have to rely completely on the expertise of the docs, and because docs can be wrong sometimes. That's really scary. #patientchat
MOLLI Surgical @MolliSurgical

T1 part of it is to much emphasis is placed on technology. This makes people think everything is curable in a matter of a few minutes. This isn’t fair. #patientchat

@MIShouldTalk Great you can join us, Amanda! #patientchat
Patient Chat @patientchat
@RadiologyAlly @RadiologyACR Hi Brett, welcome to #patientchat!!

T2: How can medical mistrust harm one's health? #patientchat https://t.co/t6xUdqzGJL
Alan Brewington @abrewi3010
T1 quality of life is considered almost spiritual or pure. Business is associated with greed & consumption. The business of #healthcare creates dirt where I just don’t want to hurt anymore #patientchat

BreastCancer Chat WW #BCCWW @bccww

Topic 3 (T3:) coming up..... #patientchat
Alan Brewington @abrewi3010
T2 living in pain is physically & mentally exhausting. Mistrust is also exhausting. Decisions made in this space usually will need a factor of luck so it won’t hurt us #patientchat
Patient Chat @patientchat
T3: Whose responsibility is it to dismantle medical mistrust? Does it fall on just one person/group? #patientchat https://t.co/0XIF66fWbI
Patient Chat @patientchat
RT @abrewi3010: T2 mistrust makes us reevaluate our ideal risk levels. We make decisions based on mistrust, not what is best for our quality of life. #patientchat
Brett Hansen @RadiologyAlly
T2: Not trusting the doctor for whatever reason (misinformation, fear of leaving your house, fear of not being able to pay) is harmful to one's health. How many folks with cancer have a worse case because they haven't been screened since before COVID. #patientchat
Alan Brewington @abrewi3010
@aggievic14 I agree completely. Especially true with #covid since the epidemic is now a political issue. Risk always increases when bad politics are in play. #patientchat
Patient Chat @patientchat
@aggievic14 10000% agree #patientchat
Patient Chat @patientchat

@abrewi3010 Is it luck or is it educating, and empowering, patients to make concerted decisions with their doctor and receiving the respect they deserve? #patientchat
Patient Chat @patientchat
@Crohnoid Better late than never! Thanks for joining Nigel. #patientchat
Alan Brewington @abrewi3010
T3 at this point it’s up to all of us to help increase trust in medicine. This includes everything from active listening at an appointment to conferences becoming patient centered to better education opportunities for all. #patientchat
Brett Hansen @RadiologyAlly
@zebrafinch I agree that docs are responsible for cultivating trust/distrust. However, I believe patients can be empowered as partners with the doctors. Gone are the days when we can stick our heads in the sand and rely on the doc for an immediate diagnosis and automatic cure. #patientchat
Patient Chat @patientchat

PatientOrator @PatientOrator
@patientchat T2: in the context of #healthequity medical mistrust leads to disparities that disproportionately impact marginalized communities and underserved groups, leading to poorer health outcomes for these individuals #patientchat
Patient Chat @patientchat
@Crohnoid So true, but so sad at the same time. #patientchat
Alan Brewington @abrewi3010
@RadiologyAlly Luck is needed when exhaustion is high. Under normal circumstances better education and empowerment (on all sides of the healthcare table) is the ideal. #patientchat

T5 our country has a systematic racist & sexist problem. Although better, even compared to 5 years ago, we still have work to do. We need to admit/accept this so we can start designing human centered solutions #patientchat

CT the basis of design thinking is developing a better understanding of the problem/issue. The more we understand, the more opportunity there is for human centered solution. #patientchat
