UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs whoops! that was a premature tweet! Let's try again #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Welcome everybody to #ukmedlibs - we're talking about statistics tonight - love them or hate them!! Please introduce yourselves - I am @samanthaclare and I am your host tonight.
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs your host @samanthaclare is one of a group of six from the current cohort of CILIP/HEE leadership people - there are others! #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs @samanthaclare Hello I’m Louise Levitt nee Wann, assistant librarian at west Middlesex university hospital #ukmedlibs
Holly Case Wyatt @Hollingtonn Hi everyone, I’m Holly another member of the stats group currently doing the CILIP/HEE Leadership programme #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs while you are all busy introducing yourselves, I will introduce the rest of the statistics project group - they are @Hollingtonn @KalDhanda @cmmclaren @HHSUofBLib and @HeatherBake - say hi! #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs and now for the first question - Do you know what statistics are collected on a national basis? #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs Openathens core content resources usage #ukmedlibs
Holly Case Wyatt @Hollingtonn @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs Well remembered! #ukmedlibs
Holly Case Wyatt @Hollingtonn Q1. I know now I’m part of the stats group, but only had a vague idea beforehand #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs so, assuming you know what statistics are collected - our next question is...What do you think about the national statistics returns and the data collected? #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @Hollingtonn Yes, I can’t say I know, but I collect lot search, training and induction stats #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs I think stats only tell part of the story. That’s why it’s so important to gather qualitative data e.g impact case studies #ukmedlibs
Holly Case Wyatt @Hollingtonn @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs Yes, this is such as important point! #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Do you agree? #ukmedlibs https://t.co/HPe5EstoPW
Holly Case Wyatt @Hollingtonn I think the collection of stats is very important, it’s fantastic we do it on a national level. I’d like to see more made with the data once we have it though #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Thinking about added extras...Q3. What local stats that aren’t included in the national return do you collect? #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs We’ve just started collecting stats on the numbers of queries we get on our promotional stand we do at grand rounds #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs @walkyouhome Do you add a story to the statistics you collect? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs @LouiseWann Interesting! Do you just collect the number of interactions or do you try to categorise them further? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs RT @HHSUofBLib:
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs @HHSUofBLib @Hollingtonn What are the staple stats collected in academic libraries? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs RT @KalDhanda:
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs Not categorising at the moment... a good suggestion though #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs @KalDhanda What story do your gate counts tell? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs @LouiseWann It’s something that was suggested at one of the forums that we’ve run and thinking about the times I’ve ran stalls etc. It seemed like a very good idea #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs @walkyouhome 😂 and do you find that your stats tell the same story as your users? #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs @walkyouhome Not necessarily. Users will often rate a resource as being ‘very useful’ but actual usage might be low if they don’t have the opportunity to use it. Hope that makes sense! #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs @walkyouhome Some may go directly to the users, but you’re more likely to gain understanding from looking at the organisation & what’s happening there. Most LKS survey all users annually rather than one specific group. Complex NHS! #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Q5. Think back to a time when you’ve used stats in an impactful way. What did you do & how did it work out? #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs 5. Some years ago we used training, lit search and borrowing stats to create a case for funding to provide a service to a community trust staff #ukmedlibs
Heather Steele @HeatherBake I find this really tricky to answer. I'd like to explore this much more #ukmedlibs https://t.co/WDBqjasMF7
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs RT @HeatherBake: I find this really tricky to answer. I'd like to explore this much more #ukmedlibs https://t.co/WDBqjasMF7
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Q5. - is anyone using impact case studies alongside their stats? Maybe to prove direct impact of services? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs RT @samanthaclare:
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Q6. What changes would you like to see made to the national stats process to support you & your library service in the future? #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs Q6. I don’t have an answer, but is it always clear what the stats relate to? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs @LouiseWann Do you mean nationally? Or that they need to be clearer in what they are asking and why? #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs As to whether they need to be clearer #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Q7. What resources or skills would further enable you to collect local statistics? #ukmedlibs
Holly Case Wyatt @Hollingtonn Q7. I think we need to move away from the idea that stats collection belongs to one person within the service, & to a culture where the whole team is involved #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs (We’re running a bit late sorry!) Q8. Have we missed anything important? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs And last question for tonight: Q8. Out of everything we’ve discussed tonight, what’s been the most important? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Very important! #ukmedlibs https://t.co/pzi6qd3efq
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Thank you all for an interesting discussion tonight. Please, please, please fill in our survey that has been emailed around. And... the group are running a session at #HLG2018 so join us there too! #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @samanthaclare @walkyouhome Thanks sam and @Hollingtonn for a very interesting conversation #ukmedlibs |
