Social Media is a powerful online communications tool for organizations to engage in dialogue with various stakeholders and has the power to change and eliminate barriers in health care and to advance patient-centred care. Social media has become mainstream, a must have part of the toolset for those in health care communications and marketing. Social Media is now moving into clinical practice, education, and research. In the future, it will be unthinkable to not have a social media component of any major communications initiative in health care.
